Statuses Meaningless - Correspondence Doesn't Exist
Xero actually bought Melio fairly recently. They try to get you to integrate the two. Unfortunately, Melio isn't reliable as a standalone so the idea of using it in an integrated way sounds like a disaster.
Here's what happens:
1. you issue a payment request
2. your client pays it, you get an email that it has been paid, the status of the payment goes to "In Progress"
3. something happens in the payment (bad ACH info, card issuer blocks it)
4. Melio does nothing. They don't notify you. They don't notify your client. They try to resolve anything.
5. Eventually, you realize they've hit an issue but said nothing and done nothing.
6. You talk to a gibberish spitting support bot.
7. Then you finally get an "agent"
8. They don't use ticketing
9. They don't see a problem with a payment they said was sent not ever coming
10. They silently move the status back to Overdue
11. You contact support again
12. They tell you to "reissue" the invoice. You can't. The invoice they didn't collect has "used" that number even though it was never paid.
13. You make up an invoice number and reissue.
14. You contact your client directly.
Cash flow is interrupted. Melio support acts like not having a ticketing system, not doing product testing, and showing statuses that are clearly false is just acceptable business practice.
Congrats on the purchase Xero!!
Response from Melio Payments
Hi Edward,
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience was a frustrating one. I've reviewed your account and your interactions with our Melio Support team to identify where we may have missed the mark and to ease your frustration.
The payment you are referring to had remained in Scheduled status, which means your payor had acknowledged the payment request and scheduled it. Within the scheduled email notification you received, the delivery date is shown as an estimate, and it also indicates that payment isn't confirmed until you receive a separate confirmation email. Since the confirmation was not issued, the payment was not processed, which may lead the payment's estimated delivery date to pass. If a scheduled payment cannot be collected, we do notify the payor if they need to take action.
Since we're only able to discuss a payor's payment method directly with them, we recommend contacting your payor to let them know you have not gotten any payment confirmation yet so they can see if they are missing any actions required to complete their payment to you.
We also appreciate your feedback about payment status and support. While chats do not automatically generate a customer-facing ticket number, our team keeps a record of all interactions, and you can feel free to request a reference number for an agent if needed. We'll share your feedback with our team as we continue working to improve your experience.
Best,
Team Melio

Utter vibe-coded crap
Can't link to account, fails to accept real addresses if they aren't recognized. You try to link it to Xero and it just fails to verify. Trash.
Response from Melio Payments
Hi Chris, Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the trouble linking your account and getting Xero to verify your address. That's frustrating, and not the experience we want for you.
If you're still running into this, please reach out to us at support@melio.com so we can help get it sorted out. Best, Team Melio

No Xero sync
The $25 plan specifically states that it will sync with Xero, but when you go to the sync page, it isn't even an option, but they took my money anyway.
Response from Melio Payments
Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I understand how confusing it would be to expect Xero syncing on the $25 plan and not see the option available after subscribing.
To clarify, Melio does sync with Xero. During the initial sync, all unpaid bills and their associated vendors in Xero are imported into Melio. After that, any new bill you create in Xero, along with any new vendor tied to that bill, will automatically sync into Melio as well.
We’d be glad to help you get the integration up and running and look into why the sync option isn’t appearing on your end. Please reach out to our support team at support@melio.com
, and we’ll review your account setup to ensure everything is configured correctly.
We appreciate your patience and the opportunity to make things right. Your experience matters to us, and we’re committed to improving.
All the best,
Team Melio

already bothered
I tried to start running Melio and have a verified and Xero linked account, and yet Xero STILL is not giving me an option to embed in invoices pushing me to other products. Xero is even enshittifying itself against its own damned acquisitions, it appears, as Melio is a Xero owned company now. What a crock.
Response from Melio Payments
Hi Mike,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this must feel. After taking the time to verify and link your account, you should have a smooth setup process, not run into additional roadblocks or be redirected to other options.
We’d very much like the opportunity to look into this and make things right. Please reach out to us at support@melio.com, and our team will review your account configuration in detail and work with you directly to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and look forward to helping you get everything running as expected.
All the best,
Team Melio

Lots of issues and no tech support resolve
When we first started using Melio for our clients it was great. Worked as expected. Then they did a big update and very important features stopped working. They no longer sync combined payments to Xero. Though I have submitted many support tickets, almost a year later they still have not fixed the issue. They started charging in October 2024, with very little warning. Since Melio has became a pay to use app, sync with Xero disconnects almost weekly and still has not resolved combined payments syncing to Xero. Yet they now charge $.50 per item over 25 per month. They have shown zero regard to resolve any technical issues. They also will not allow you to collect payments from Individuals. If you are a business who sells to individuals, you cannot use Melio to collect payments. They do not recognize bill credits or partial payments. They miss the mark in so many areas of basic business. Save yourself the headache.
Response from Melio Payments
Hi Melissa, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear about the frustrations you’ve experienced with Melio. We understand how disruptive technical issues—especially with something as critical as Xero syncing—can be to your business operations, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused.
After reviewing your recent interactions with our support team, we can confirm that your case has been escalated to our Technical team for further investigation. Please rest assured that the agent you’ve been in contact with will follow up via email as soon as there’s an update or resolution available.
We genuinely appreciate your patience and the opportunity to make things right. Your experience matters to us, and we’re committed to improving.
All the best, Team Melio
Although Xero reviews each app in the Xero App Store, we can’t give any guarantees. It’s up to you to assess the performance, quality and suitability of any app before going ahead.
