Overview

Get paid faster — automated credit control and debt recovery for Xero.

Garfield is the first AI law firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), built to help UK small businesses, sole traders, accountants and finance teams take control of accounts receivable and recover unpaid invoices. Connect your Xero account and Garfield automatically reads your overdue invoices and the contact details it needs — turning a backlog of late payments and manual debtor tracking into a structured, automated recovery process.

From there, Garfield does the legal legwork that ordinary credit control and payment-reminder tools can't. It drafts and sends everything from a polite payment reminder to a formal letter before action, and if the debtor still won't pay, it can issue and manage a claim of up to £10,000 through the small claims court of England & Wales — including a county court judgment (CCJ) via Money Claim Online — and handle a defence through to trial. You're kept informed at every stage while Garfield handles the paperwork.

Why businesses choose Garfield:

  • Automated credit control and collections that escalate all the way to court — not just reminders
  • Recover invoices up to £10,000 without hiring a solicitor or a debt collection agency
  • Fees from just £2 for a chaser and £7.50 for a letter before action (excl. VAT) — recoverable from the debtor, with statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act, if you win
  • Documents ready in minutes, available 7 days a week
  • Bulk-create claims to clear an aged debtor backlog and reduce DSO, with role-based access for finance, legal and operations teams
  • Around 20× faster and 10× cheaper than a traditional law firm

Garfield is the first to win a contested court trial with an SRA-regulated AI lawyer, and has been featured by the Financial Times, Forbes, BBC, The Economist and The Times, as well as cited in a House of Lords Constitution Committee report.

Garfield + Xero

How Garfield works with Xero

Garfield connects securely to your Xero account so you can recover unpaid invoices without exporting data or re-keying anything. Once connected, Garfield reads your outstanding and overdue invoices and the associated customer details, then helps you turn them into formal debt-recovery action — from a first chaser through to a small claims court claim of up to £10,000 in England & Wales.

What you can do once Xero is connected:

  • See your overdue Xero invoices in Garfield and select which ones to pursue
  • Start recovery on a single invoice, or bulk-select multiple invoices to clear a backlog
  • Let Garfield draft and send the right legal correspondence at each stage, using the invoice and contact data pulled from Xero
  • Track the status of every claim in one place, with role-based access for your finance, legal and operations teams

Data Garfield reads from Xero:

  • Invoices — including amounts, due dates and outstanding balances, to identify recoverable debts
  • Contacts — the debtor's name and contact details needed to address correspondence and court documents

Connecting your account

You authorise the connection through Xero's secure sign-in, and you can disconnect at any time from within Xero or Garfield. Garfield only accesses the information needed to identify and pursue outstanding invoices, and your data is handled in line with our privacy policy and SRA regulatory obligations.

Garfield is available to businesses operating in England & Wales.

Debt Recovery Game Changer!!

This helps massively with recovering sub £10k debts. Can't believe how simple and easy it is to use. It would be even better if it could do larger claims!
