Overview
Compliance eats your team's capacity. Documents chased. Queries lost in email threads. Review squeezed into the final week.
Zato is the Agentic AI for accounting firms. It runs the production layer of the compliance job, so your people can focus on review, judgement, and advisory.
How Zato works with Xero
- Connect Xero and Xero Practice Manager. Your clients and jobs are synced.
- Trial balance, chart of accounts and general ledger flow straight in. Nothing re-keyed.
- Two way sync for journals.
One job, start to finish
- Documents. Source files collated, mapped and tagged to the right workpaper. Connect FYI Docs, SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox.
- GL Scrutiny. Unusual balances and transactions flagged across the ledger, with queries raised for you.
- Workpapers. 40+ workpapers per region, populated from source documents and reconciled to the GL in real time. Click any figure to see where it came from.
- Query Hub. Every query across the firm in one place. Ziffy drafts them. You send them.
- Reviewer Cockpit. Trial balance, workpapers, exceptions, queries and journals on one screen. Managers see what's ready. Partners sign off from one page.
Ziffy
Ziffy works across the whole platform. It flags balances that don't look right and tells you why, surfaces the risks worth a second look, drafts queries and explains any number on demand. It suggests. You decide.
Built for New Zealand and Australia
- Separate NZ and AU workpaper sets, built for each region's tax rules.
- NZ: IRD and Companies Office integrations
- AU: ATO integration
- Your data stays in region. NZ data is processed in New Zealand, AU data in Australia.
Security you can put in front of your partners
Certified to ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001 and ISO 9001, with an independent SOC 2 Type II attestation and GDPR-aligned data handling. Every figure traces to its source. Every review point and sign-off is logged.

Zato + Xero
Zato connects to Xero and Xero Practice Manager (XPM), so every compliance job starts with the data already in place. No downloading, no re-keying, no reconciling between systems.
What Zato reads from Xero
- Clients. Sign in once and select the organisations to bring in. Each is imported and tagged as Xero-sourced.
- Jobs. Connect XPM and your jobs come across, attached to the right client. Xero alone is enough to bring in clients.
- Ledger data. Chart of accounts, trial balance and general ledger for each organisation.
What Zato writes back to Xero
- Manual journals. Adjustments raised in Zato, including late year-end entries, push to Xero with Sync with Partner. The client's Xero file ends the job matching the workpapers.
What your team does with it
- GL Scrutiny reviews the whole ledger, flags unusual balances and transactions, and raises queries that clear when the evidence or journal arrives.
- Workpapers reconcile to the Xero GL. Balance per GL sits next to Balance per Workpaper, and a workpaper only reaches Ready to approve once any variance is resolved.
- Lineage traces any figure back to the GL or the source document it came from.
Staying in sync
- Two-way. A correction made directly in Xero can be pulled back into Zato, and the workpaper balance refreshes.
- Zato is designed for journals to be raised in Zato first, so both systems stay aligned and the audit trail stays intact.
- Choose how data moves for each job: direct Xero sync, sync plus manual upload, or full manual upload.
Connection and security
- Connect through Xero's own sign-in (OAuth 2.0). Zato never asks for your Xero password.
- Connect one organisation or your whole client base, all managed from one Zato account.
- Certified to ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001 and ISO 9001, with an independent SOC 2 Type II attestation and GDPR-aligned data handling.
- NZ data is processed in New Zealand. AU data is processed in Australia.
Getting connected
In Zato, go to Firm Settings, then ZIP (Integration). Select Connect on Xero/XPM, sign in to Xero, choose your organisations and authorise. Your clients import automatically. Users and integrations are set up in under 15 minutes.
