Boxkite does two things. It automatically and continuously backs up your Xero data and files into your own Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive. Connect once, and every new or changed invoice, contact, transaction and attachment flows into your storage 24 hours a day. If you just need a copy, a one-off download gets you everything as a single ZIP.
Why back up Xero?
Most jurisdictions require 5–7 years of record retention, and if you ever cancel your Xero subscription, access to your data goes with it. If you're giving AI tools access to your accounts, you need an independent backup before they touch anything.
Keep your data in storage you control
Most backup tools keep your data on their servers. Boxkite is different: everything is saved in your own Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive, as ordinary files and CSVs. It syncs to your desktop like the rest of your cloud storage, it's there forever, and it never depends on us staying in business.

Boxkite + Xero
Boxkite connects to your Xero organisation. Once connected, it monitors your organisation continuously (checks run roughly hourly) and transfers anything new or modified straight from Xero to your Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive. For one off backups it will start discovering all the data in your organisation then transfer it into a zip file for you to download.
Files arrive in their original format alongside CSVs of your accounting data, organised into clearly named folders.
Data is read only and flows one way. Boxkite never changes anything in your Xero organisation.
Typical space needed is small: an organisation with ~2,000 invoices uses under 200MB of your cloud storage.

Getting started

- Choose to connect your cloud storage and plan OR start a one off download
- That's it. Boxkite runs in the background from then on. Your first backup starts immediately; new data typically lands in your cloud folder within an hour or two of appearing in Xero.
