Overview

Depreciation done right, without becoming a tax expert

You bought the ute, the fit-out, the equipment. Now you track what they're worth, usually in a spreadsheet that holds the numbers and fragile formulas, but not what happened to each asset along the way. The context is lost, and as more and more people edit the spreadsheet, so is your confidence in the numbers.

Dwindle is a fixed-asset register and depreciation platform for Australian and New Zealand businesses. It records every event in an asset's life and applies the correct tax and accounting treatment, so every number reconciles against the asset's story.

The problems we solve

The spreadsheet that breaks quietly. One wrong formula can sit undetected for years. Dwindle has no formulas to maintain and nothing to break.

Files emailed back and forth. The spreadsheet goes to your accountant, comes back changed, and nobody knows which copy is current. In Dwindle the asset data lives in one place. Invite your accountant and work on the same register together, with unlimited users on every plan.

Rules that change every year. Instant asset write-off thresholds, car limits, pooling, Investment Boost. Dwindle applies the rules in force on the date you bought or first used each asset.

Different numbers for different people. Write an asset off for tax and it can vanish from your balance sheet, just when the bank wants to see it. Dwindle keeps accounting, tax and custom books side by side.

Only one person knows how it works. When they leave, the schedule becomes a rebuild. In Dwindle the rules and history live in the platform, not in someone's head.

Painful, time-consuming rollbacks. Found a mistake from two years ago? Most systems make you unlock periods and roll back months of work. In Dwindle you edit the asset at any point in time, and the numbers recalculate live from its events.

What you get

  • Add an asset in a couple of fields. Guided screens, no tax jargon.
  • Plan ahead. Forecast depreciation to plan purchases, cashflow and budgets.
  • Claim with confidence. Every figure is traceable and stands up to audit.
  • Bring your existing register. Bulk import via CSV, validated as it comes in.
  • Disposals handled. Record a sale, trade-in or scrapping and the adjustment is calculated.
  • Workspaces. Do your working away from the live, approved numbers, then publish once reviewed.

Built for Australia and New Zealand

  • Australia: Division 40 and 43, small business and low-value pools, and the full instant asset write-off history.
  • New Zealand: IRD prescribed rates, the pool method, low-value write-off and Investment Boost.
  • Run AU and NZ entities together, each on its own income year.

Grows with you

Add entities and staff as you grow. Pricing scales with your register, never per seat.

Dwindle + Xero

Dwindle + Xero

Your fixed-asset register lives in Dwindle. Your ledger lives in Xero. The integration keeps the two in step, so the depreciation in your accounts always matches the register behind it, without re-keying numbers or building journals by hand.

Map your asset categories to Xero accounts

Connect your Xero organisation and map each relevant Dwindle asset category to the matching accounts in your Xero chart of accounts. You set this up once. From then on, every asset in that category posts to the right place automatically.

Reconcile and post with the wizard

At period end, the reconciliation wizard walks you through getting Xero up to date:

  1. Review the depreciation Dwindle has calculated for the period, grouped by the accounts you mapped.
  2. Check it against what is already in Xero, so you can see exactly what needs to be posted.
  3. Push the entries into Xero as manual journals, ready for your records.

No exporting schedules, no copying figures into journal templates, and no wondering whether the ledger has drifted from the register.

Why it matters

  • One source of truth. Asset data and depreciation are calculated in Dwindle. Xero receives the result, so the two never disagree.
  • Less manual work. Month-end and year-end journals are generated from your register, not typed in.
  • Fewer errors. Mapping is set once, so entries land in the same accounts every period.
  • Accountant-friendly. Your accountant can work in Dwindle alongside you and see exactly what was posted to Xero, and why.
