Consultants & Contractors AVOID - $ Withheld / Theft

If you are processing larger invoices, AVOID Square! As a small technical consulting startup, originally attracted to Square because of the "good" reviews and "quick" account setup. After submitting all of my identification, businesses information, documentation and accepting a large contract client payment, Square sent me an email saying they have decided to Deactivate my account with ZERO explanation and they would be holding the funds for 30 days! I called and spoke with a representative asking why and was told "an internal team" make the decision. When I asked what the name of the internal team was, he refused to give me an answer. I then asked them to just cancel the payment on their end since I would use another system to process it. He told me they could only partial refund the payment and would be keeping almost $600 in processing fees. Being charged processing fees for a service they failed to deliver on is outrageous at best and ventures in to fraudulent. If you are trying to build your new business, Square puts your money and client relationships at risk!

1 start for the moment.

Text says "New to Square? Sign up for free and get $2,500 of fee free processing. Sign up for free". When you click on it takes to Square in Australia? So what's the story, not available in the US?

Doesn't forward credit card surcharge

It works well with the EFTPOS machine (which charges the client a 1.95% surcharge on credit card transactions). However, I've been asking them about forwarding the payment surcharge to the client for online transactions. Our transaction amounts range from tens to thousands, so when a client pays online, they simply pay the invoice amount—but then Square charges us 2.2% of the transaction! That means we end up paying hundreds of dollars in fees for invoices in the thousands.

Helpful and fixed the errors

i have come across some issues while using these products the correct way and the team at Amako have been very helpful in correcting the integration and helping me understand how it all works!

Definitely not worth the trouble of integrating with Xero

The integration, using Amaka, has changed three times within the last year - the last two times without notification. The integration creates gl accounts within Xero - to which I strenuously object - without notification or permission. It does not report sales tax correctly either. After the initial setup, there is no documentation on how to use nor how data is being placed in the new accounts and what to do with them. Finally, we killed the integration. It is much, much easier to run monthly reports and enter data into a worksheet to calculate manual journal entries. What a shame. Instead of making life easier, it makes it more difficult.
