Overview
Medial is an AI-powered accounting assistant designed by accountants, for accountants.
Medial connects directly to your Xero organisation and allows you to ask questions about your financial data in plain English. Instead of exporting reports, building spreadsheets, or manually explaining movements, Medial helps you understand what happened, why it happened, and what to focus on next.
Medial is built for real accounting workflows. Every answer is grounded in your Xero data and structured to support professional review, internal analysis and client communication.
With Medial, accountants can: • Review month-end results faster • Explain variances with confidence • Prepare management commentary without starting from scratch • Reduce time spent on repetitive analysis and reporting Medial is designed to complement your existing accounting processes. It acts as a first-pass analyst that helps surface insights, trends, and explanations so your team can focus on review, judgement, and client advice.
Key capabilities
AI-powered financial Q&A Ask questions like: • “Why did gross profit fall this month?” • “What drove the increase in wages?”
Medial retrieves the relevant Xero data and explains results clearly, using accounting language and logic.
Month-end review and variance analysis Medial helps accountants quickly identify material movements across the profit and loss and balance sheet with variances explained using real data.
Journal-level analysis Medial can analyse journals to help explain changes between periods. This supports stronger flux analysis, audit preparation, and internal review processes.
Clear, review-ready outputs Outputs are structured, professional, and designed to be reviewed by accountants. Medial highlights assumptions and flags missing information.
Designed for busy teams Medial is built to fit naturally into your month-end workflow. Use it to analyze results, prepare first-draft commentary, and then apply your professional judgement before sharing with clients or stakeholders. Medial can handle multi-entity environments and supports consistent, repeatable analysis across different organisations.
What you get in every response • Clear numbers and period context (e.g., month, quarter, year) • A plain-English explanation of the drivers • Journal-led support where available • Practical follow-up questions • Flags for missing, unusual, or incomplete data
Typical workflows • Month-end review: run a quick scan of material movements, then drill into journals for the “why” • Client commentary: generate a first draft, then refine tone and add context specific to the client • Internal review: reconcile unexpected movements by tracing to transactions and journals
Medial is ideal for: • Accounting firms • CFOs and finance teams • Bookkeepers and advisors • Internal finance teams using Xero
Medial helps accounting teams work faster without sacrificing accuracy or professional judgement.

Medial + Xero
Medial integrates directly with Xero using secure, authorised API connections.
Once connected, Medial can access key financial data to support accounting analysis and reporting, including profit and loss data, balance sheet data, and transaction and journal information.
Data access and security Medial only accesses data from Xero organisations that you explicitly authorise. Connections are established using Xero’s standard OAuth authentication process. You remain in control of which organisations are connected and can disconnect access at any time. All AI outputs are generated based on your own accounting data. We do not use your data to train, fine-tune, or improve any underlying AI models. Your data remains secure, confidential and isolated within your account environment.
How Medial uses your data Medial retrieves only the data required to answer each request and generate analysis, supporting: • Financial question and answer workflows • Variance analysis • Journal-level explanations • Management-style commentary
Built for trust and accuracy Where data is incomplete, unavailable, or ambiguous, Medial will clearly state this rather than making assumptions. This helps ensure outputs remain suitable for professional review.
Performance and scalability Medial is designed to support organisations of different sizes, including firms managing multiple Xero entities. Data synchronisation and processing are optimised for performance while respecting Xero API usage limits.
Connection management • Connect and disconnect organisations at any time from within Medial. • If a connection is removed or expires, Medial will clearly show the affected organisation and prompt you to reconnect. • Sync status is visible per organisation so you can confirm when data was last refreshed.
Data handling • Medial processes only the data required to enable analysis and reporting features. • Data is logically isolated per customer account and per connected Xero organisation. • API usage is monitored and optimised to ensure optimal performance.
Getting started
The easiest way to begin using Medial is by selecting the “Get this app” button on this Xero App Store listing.
Medial is designed to integrate quickly with your existing Xero workflow so you can start analysing financial data without complex setup or training.
Setup process
- Select “Get this app” Click the “Get this app” button on the Xero App Store listing. You will be guided through the standard Xero connection flow.
- Authorise your Xero organisation You will be redirected to Xero to authorise access using Xero’s secure OAuth process. Select the organisation or organisations you wish to connect. Medial only accesses organisations you explicitly approve, and you remain in control of connected entities at all times.
- Complete initial setup Once connected, Medial prepares your financial data for analysis. This includes structuring profit and loss data, balance sheet data, and transaction and journal information so it can be queried accurately. Initial preparation typically takes a few minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the organisation.
- Start asking questions After setup is complete, you can immediately begin asking questions about your Xero data in plain English. For example: • “Explain the change in net profit this month” • “What drove the increase in operating expenses?” • “Which journals explain the variance in wages?”
Medial retrieves the relevant data and presents structured, accountant-ready explanations.
Review and refine outputs Medial is designed to support professional workflows. Use the outputs as part of your normal review process. Ask follow-up questions to refine explanations, confirm drivers, or focus on material movements. This iterative approach helps surface insights quickly.
Recommended first session To get the most value from your first session: • Start with one organisation and ask a simple validation question, such as “What was net profit this month?” • Follow with a driver-focused question, for example “What drove the change in operating expenses versus last month?” • Use journal-focused questions to confirm explanations, such as “Show the top journals behind the variance in wages.”
Using Medial effectively To improve accuracy and clarity: • Specify time periods clearly, such as “this month”, “last month”, or “month ended 31 December 2025”. • Ask for prioritisation, for example “top 5 drivers”, “only material movements”, or “explain the largest variances”. • Use follow-up questions to explore movements further.
Tips • Ask clear, specific questions • Use Medial as a first-pass analyst to save time
Support Medial is built for professional accounting environments. You can disconnect any organisation at any time to revoke access. If you are onboarding a larger organisation or one with a long transaction history, allow a few extra minutes for the initial preparation step. Medial is designed to scale across multiple organisations while remaining easy to use for individual reviews.
