The demand for an easier and more cost-effective way to carbon footprint an organisation was identified by Will Richardson and Emma Littlewood at Green Element, a successful Environmental Management Consultancy set up by Will in 2004.
Over the years they noticed that many organisations would love to be greener but were held back by the time and financial barriers.
In 2017, they used over 20 years of sustainability experience to develop Compare Your Footprint to semi-automate the carbon footprint process using a comprehensive software platform.
Since the launch of Compare Your Footprint, the team has been able to significantly reduce the cost of carbon emissions assessment and help organisations of all sizes and industries to get started on their environmental journey.
Our software is fully integrated with Xero so you can connect your account to Compare Your Footprint and map spend with categories in our software (such as Electricity, gas, water, business travel, purchased items etc.). Once you have mapped your categories, you will get an automated conversion of your spend into carbon emissions every time Xero is updated with new billing information.

Compare Your Footprint + Xero
Once you have registered for a carbon footprint account with Compare Your Footprint, you can set up your organisation and a facility (site) - to measure your spend data under. Once these are set up, you are then able to connect your Xero account to Compare Your Footprint. Full instructions in Get Started section!

Activity categories Our software offers one of the most comprehensive carbon footprint measurement database of over 10,000 carbon conversion factors. We have worked with organisations of all sizes and industries to develop our database that goes beyond the global standards.

Measure all emissions scopes 1, 2 & 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are broken down into three categories: scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol created these scopes as part of its Corporate Accounting Reporting Standard to provide a global framework for measuring and managing GHG emissions for all types of organisations and industries. This framework helps to prevent the “double-counting” of emissions in company reporting.

Getting started
Visit our dedicated Xero partnership page below to get started. Once you have registered for an account and set up your organisation and first site) facility, you can then create your dedicated Xero tracking categories to integrate with Compare Your Footprint's tracking categories.
Once your Xero categories are set up, you can go back into your Compare Your Footprint account and match your Xero categories to ours!
You are then ready to import your bills and measure the carbon impact of your purchases.
