Waste of Time. Regulators Already Involved
I only found GoCardless through Xero’s app store and it has been nothing but a mess. They demanded documents no other processor (Stripe, PayPal, Wells Fargo, Capital One) ever asked for, then approved my account and shut it down two weeks later with a vague “security” excuse.
I have already filed complaints with regulators in the US (CFPB, FinCEN, South Dakota Division of Banking), UK (FCA), Canada (FCAC), and Australia (AFCA) with EU complaints in progress. This is not onboarding. It is arbitrary, inconsistent, and unsafe for your business.
If you want reliability, go with Stripe or PayPal. GoCardless may look like a convenient Xero add-on but the reality is wasted time and regulatory headaches.

SCAM
Terrible service. They suck in the system and then hold the account. Tried to call them on their Australian land line number but no response. Sent them emails with no response. They collected the customer payments but are not sending it to our account.
I think they are resorting to teeming and lading practice.
Will take class action and also let know AFCA,Australia.

"Unprofessional Service and Zero Transparency"
I’ve had a very disappointing experience with GoCardless. After going through the entire setup process and integrating with my business systems, they suddenly closed my account with no clear explanation or valid reason.
This has caused major disruption to my business operations because we rely on timely payments and direct debit collections to keep everything running smoothly. What’s worse is the lack of communication and transparency — no clear details were provided about why my account was shut down or how to resolve the situation.
I expected a reputable payment provider like GoCardless to offer professional support, clear communication, and fair treatment to its customers. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with wasted time, inconvenience, and a lack of trust in the service.
I hope they improve their customer support and account management practices so other businesses don’t face the same frustration.

Absolute scam - avoid
Worst experience to date. Scam operation.
Tried setting up automated payments via direct debit to give customers another option if they didn't want to to use card details. Big mistake using Gocardless option in Xero.
After setting up & deducting funds from customer's account they waited until the supposed payout day to verify the account, payments on hold.
Bookeeper/management accountant contacted support only to be advised the verification team could not be contacted directly & to respond to the automated verification email. Email requested photo ID & pic holding the photo ID. Provided all information requested and ID with pic in addition to copy of invoice & contact details of accounting firm. Two days later informed that 'account has not passed our assessment to a satisfactory level' & as for the funds already deducted from customer's account 'Your customer will need to reach out to their bank to try and recover these funds.'
Account now inactive & basically the team is not directly contactable except by email.
Large accounting firm who support us will be advising clients to avoid using GoCardless. Hopefully Xero will find a suitable alternative that can assist businesses instead of causing loss.

Avoid GoCardless—Unreliable and Poorly Managed Service
We had a deeply disappointing experience with GoCardless. After submitting all requested documentation, our account was suddenly restricted without explanation. We still have no clarity on the status of our customer payments, which is unacceptable. We integrated GoCardless with Xero expecting a seamless solution, but instead encountered confusion, poor communication, and disruption to our operations. I strongly advise others to steer clear of this service.

Thrilled with the Support
I rarely leave reviews, but I had to take a moment to give a massive shoutout to GoCardless—especially to Wasiq from the support team. His assistance was second to none. From the moment I reached out, Wasiq went above and beyond to help me with everything I needed.
He was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about getting things sorted. It’s not every day you come across someone who makes the process not just smooth, but actually enjoyable. I’m honestly over the moon with the level of service he provided.
